Superstition fights science (again)..

I noticed this little story today from Kenya; it's the usual stuff, ignorant religious folk refusing to take their 5 year old daughter to the doctor, preferring to pray instead. It looks like the girl will be dead soon, hopefully the parents will be punished for their infanticide and the world turns.

I wonder how many Einstein's, Mozart's and Newtons have been lost to humanity because of morons like this.

You could do with reading the sub-text... There's an anti-colonial slant to this stupid behaviour - "Why should we have the white people's medecine". "Religion", like science, is always culturally determined.
Btw, among the Christians I know, the most common occupation is nursing, followed by teaching, computing and then doctors.

Hi G, yes I read that too, I don't buy it for a second, that's not what the people themselves are saying, it's what the apologists are putting into their mouths to deflect attention IMO.

I wouldn't argue that there aren't other factors, education for a start; but if the concept of "faith" wasn't being applied over reason (instigated by whomever) then this poor child would stand a chance; after all, it's not because there aren't the resources to save her.
